How To Clean Plumbing Pipes

When you have a clogged drain, there are some things you can try yourself to unclog it. Try one or all of these methods before you call a plumber.

Remove Grease Buildup

You need hot water to melt grease and clear it from your plumbing pipes. Heat eight cups of water on the stove or in an electric kettle. After it's done boiling, add three tablespoons of dishwashing detergent. Dump the water down the drain, but wait about four minutes if your pipes are plastic. Repeat this process as needed. The team at Half Moon Plumbing in Owasso, OK, can help you with your toughest clogs. We have the expertise and tools to mitigate any plumbing pipe problem.

Use Drain Cleaner

While you can buy a traditional drain cleaner, get an enzyme one instead as it's environmentally friendly. Read the bottle's directions and leave the drain cleaner for the required time before flushing it. Only use one type of drain cleaner at a time to avoid creating toxic fumes.

Use a Plunger

Fill your sink up halfway with water. Put the plunger over the drain and press it down to remove air from it. Plunge up and down using straight motions, so you're forcing water through your plumbing pipes instead of air. Once the pipe is clear, rinse it with hot water.

Use a Snake

You can buy a snake at any hardware store. Remove the stopper from the sink. Put the snake down the pipe by cranking it. You'll feel resistance when the snake encounters the clog. Rotate the snake back out and clean off the hair. You may need to do this a few times to pull out a large clog.Half Moon Plumbing is a full-service company.
